Connecting Tux Droid to your PC

This How-to applies to: Any version.
This How-to is intended for: End User

How to connect Tux Doid to your PC correctly. Trivial for most, but even die-hard techies can once in a while overlook something ;)
  • Step 1: Connect the USB fish dongle with the provided USB cable to your PC. The blue LED in the dongle will start to blink slowly with regular intervals. In this mode the dongle is initialized and is looking for Tux Droid to connect to.

  • Step 2: Now for Tux Droid, the following way is the most fail-safe: The batteries might be quite low at the first use, so better use the provided transformer and connect it with the power jack in the tail of Tux Droid (under the power switch).

  • Step3: Next, turn the power switch on Tux Droid in the "on" position. Tux will greet you by flapping his flippers and saying "hello". Note that the LED in the USB dongle will flicker very fast and that the blue LED's in the eyes of Tux Droid will be lit. This meansĀ  both the USB dongle and Tux Droid are connected trough the radio link.

That is all there is to it. During normal operation the USB dongle should keep flickering quickly and the LED's of Tux Droid should remain lit (unless they are turned off manually or when using behavior scripts).

    Troubleshooting

  1. In case of difficulties to get the radio connection up, doing a reset of Tux Droid and replugging the fish dongle can do wonders.
  2. Help! My fish dongle LED's don't flicker at all!

If you don't get any LED activity, this means that somehow the USB device is not detected or can't be initialized. A common cause for this issue is that the usb audio device is still open from a previous session and blocks the detection of the dongle. Close all running audio applications or mixer panels to shut down the usb audio device of the previous session.
