Tux and the Eee Pc

Posted by Meu at June 12. 2008

As you might know, Eee PC's default Xandros isn't compatible with every .deb-package. I'm interested on buying Tux, and I can't install Kubuntu on my other computer yet. So, does Tux Droid and it's .deb package work on Eee? Does the .deb package have any depencies?

Default Xandros and tux do not go together.

tux needs python 2.5 and xandros comes with python 2.4 (and python noob as I am I found no way to get a decent upgrade).

If you search for eeepc in this forum you find lots of info. I think there is also info on eeeuser.com

Of course if you decide to install ubuntu or debian on your eeepc you do not have a problem. (you can even install it on a usb flash drive or SD card)

Disclaimer: the 2.4 was with my eeepc (first gen 701) If you have a 900 or a new 701 model it might be that the software is updated. Try python -v to find what version of python you have.

Xandros on the EEE makes a great kiosk for using the device as a web appliance. If you want to run the EEE as a full computer system try moving on up to eeebuntu (http://www.eeebuntu.org/). Once installed your EEE becomes a fully working unbuntu based computer..and yes the wifi, sound, camera and all the goodies the eee has work with it.

Enjoy.
