no radio connection
Up to General discussion
hey everyone,
i just received my tux today, and i cant get it to work
I installed v1.2.2 of tuxsetup on my ubuntu laptop. the USB fish and radio connection both worked, but none of the gadgets made my tux say anything. i would just heard a quick "click" sort of sound. I didnt have any TTS voices installed at this time (maybe that was the problem?).
so i decided to try to update the firmware. i upgraded to v3.1 (i think). at first it said there was an error and to try again. 2nd time it updated successfully.
now the problem is that gadget manager is telling me that i do not have a radio connection with the tux. The fish's eyes are steady blue, and so is tux's. Still none of the gadgets will work.
i tried running the gadget software as root, but nothing changed.
will someone please help me? I haven't been able to get my tux to say anything except "hello" when it turns on...
thanks,
-dave
you need to install tts voices in order to let tux say anything apart from the precooked messages like "hello".
I suggest you install the US voice and a voice to your liking. You can only use 2 voices at a time.
Wrt the firmware upgrade. Maybe there is a problem with the daemon after the upgrade.
Have you tried rebooting your pc?
If that does not cure things, uninstall tuxsetup, reboot, reinstall.
Good luck!
I installed the English TTS, reinstalled the .deb for tuxinstaller 1.2.2 and restarted the
computer, and now all is well. The radio connection works, and my tux can
talk and dance! thanks so much for the advice.
on a related note: the gadget manager should be aware if there
is no TTS languages installed (resulting in a tux that doesnt say
anything, but thinks he is) and throw an error message to the user. I
apologize if this idea is already implemented in v1.3.
Thanks again!
