New 'Wishlist' Forum?

Posted by Srikanta Prasanna at February 20. 2007

How about starting a new form for maintaining a wish-list?

My first wishlist (non-technical) would be:
- Change the tux-droid website from plone to something else.
Or atleast make it more simpler and cleaner. Add a helpful wiki
to that.
I'd really like something similar to OpenMoko website.
The wiki and website there is really simple and easy to follow.

Lol. Happy to find some openmoko guys here :)

Yup, the website is great. Maybe we need more a wiki than a forum...

Yup, have been following Openmoko too for quite
some time (since its beginning ;))

Actually we'll have developer accounts so that people that request it should be able to add stuff in the documentation arena and host their own applications in the developer corner. But if you feel the need for a wiki, I can check out how to add that here inhttp://openmoko.org/ Plone.

Sure we could change from Plone to something else but that wouldn't mean this will be cleaner. It's certainly possible to have something close to openmoko with Plone, that doesn't mean we can do it. We should first figure out what is really important. Openmoko had to combine a lot of different products to get all they needed. All those products are very good but merging them has some drawbacks too probably. You can't search on the complete website I suppose as cataloging occurs in different servers. They use bugzilla for the main development but trackers from Forge for products,...

But I agree they're better organized, just that moving from Plone would probably create more hassle than improvements.

Somehow we already have some similarities like the planet page (blogs), the projects/forge (developer corner), bugzilla (trackers are linked from the project pages), lists (I need to add this information clearly now). Wiki is missing but we have the documentation pages that everybody can contribute to but why not a wiki for drafts and when something is clean, we can copy it to the documentation pages.

Plone 3.0 will have versioning included and wiki-like links so we should be able to use every page like a wiki.

Any idea to improve this webiste is really welcome.

Cheers,
david

Hi Dave,

My post was more of an act of desperation when
I could not find a few things simple here, so
pls don't mind my rant :D

I agree that moving from plone to something
else is not a solution. Hope Plone 3.0, as you
mention, having versioning, may be helpful in
some aspects.

I agree that we need to prioritize upon things
to do. But, in my humble and personal opinion,
I find the current setup of this website a bit
confusing.

- I find that there are duplication of links to
forum, download section and blog: one at left
side navigation panel, one at the top. I would
prefer something which is pretty simple and
straightforward.

- While replying to a message in the forum, its
difficult (not possible?) to reply to a previous
message para-by-para. This is really frustrating
once you are used to bottom-posting. :)
Can we pls change this somehow?

Will post more things on this thread as and when I
observe.

Thanks.

regards,
srikanta.
