Jabber/XMPP client

Posted by zubro at August 20. 2007

This is a script to connect the Tux droid to a Jabber/XMPP server. It will then say all the messages that are send to it's JID. You can also add some bots to the droid's roster, like RSS reader bots, for example.

The script tries to guess the language of the message to select the appropriate voice (it currently works with French and English detection, but can be changed for any other languages).

Prerequisites:

  • xmpppy, an XMPP Python library
  • An Jabber account (you can use any Jabber client to register). Be sure to also add contacts authorized to send messages to the droid in the droid's roster.

Usage:

run
tuxxmpp.py username@server.net password

Then you can send messages to your droid using any jabber client.

Hi all,

I'm running ubuntu 7.10 and tuxsetup 1.2beta. Does this script still work? I can get it to connect to jabber but after that nothing. I can message the droid but nothing happens.

:(
